MAY 2021 ROSICRUCIAN MASS SERMON: THE OVERSOUL

Think of the Oversoul as the Qabalistic Adam Kadmon; a holographic archetype from which humanity generates male and female beings. The Adam Kadmon is the Divine having taken on etheric substance with humanity fully taking on material substance; divided into male and female forms. The Divine itself, first manifests as Kether (the Crown) on the Tree-of-Life. This is also referred to as the L.V.X. or light, which Emerson refers to as the Oversoul.

  1. Sermon
    The Oversoul
    Ralph Waldo Emerson Essay

    1. One could posit that Emerson waas a qabalist, or even a phenomenalist. He certainly starts this essay as if a metaphysician.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Our being is descending into us from we know not whence.”

1A. This is as much, a dualist perspective; basically separating the body from mind and mind from spirit. Being seems to be the self, as the observer, with the thoughts of the mind originating from the world of events (the phenomenal world; perhaps being also the body.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“As with events, so it is with thoughts. When I watch the flowing irver, which, out of regions, I see not, pours for a season its streams into me, I see that I a pensioner; not a cause, but a surprised spectator of this ethereal water; that I desire and look up, and put myself in the attitude of reception, but from some alien ever the visions comes.”

1B. The observing self reognizs oh the stream of consciousness and the causal world of events, as having some hidden or ineffable origin; seemingly pointing to the qabalistic notion of the Adam Kadmon: the source of both male and female souls, as much being the Over-Soul of the world, herself.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“We live is succession, in division in parts, in particles. Meantime within man is the soul of the whole; the wise silence; the universal beauty, to which every part and particle is related; the eternal ONE.”

1C. The Adam Kadmon, as the prototype for being in material manifestation os of the Aethyr that surrounds and pervades our planet; generating both the male and femal, as also, our percepton of the Sun and the Moon.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“We see this owrld pice by piece, as the sun, the moon, the animal, the tree; but the whole, of which these are the shing parts, is the soul.”

    2. This soul then emerges into our field of perception by our beingness, or our spirit, has an intimate connection with our bodies in the world of events; coming into us and affecting the pure will, essence or observing consciousness.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“All goes to show that the soul is not an organ, but animates and exercizes all the organs; is not a function like the power of memory, of calculation, of comparison, but uses these as hands and feet, is not a faculty, but a light, is not the intellect and the will, but the master of the intellect and the will; is the background of our being, in which they lie,–an immensity not possessed. From within or from behind, a light shines through us upon things, and makes us aware that we are nothing, but the light is all.”

2A. We are the L.V.X.; flowing from the Adam Kadmon or Over-Soul, and through our bodies, as an animating facor that dixes the essence or spirit into the intellect and the will.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“When it breathes thorugh his intellect, it is genius; when it breathes through his will, it is virtue; when it flows thorugh his affection, it is love.”

2B. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the law, love under will. It is the genius in each of us that comes forward through our virtues and our affections.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“The growths of genius are of a certain total character, tha tdoes not advance the elect individual…and gives to each the pain of discovered inferiority, but by every throe of growth the man expand there where he works, passing at each pulsation, classes, populatons of men. With each divine impulse the mind rends the thing rinds of the visible and finite, and comes out into eternity and insires and expires its air.”

    3. Our genius first discover then, that it does not know truth, but does not cower from this; but ther in courage seeks aft it. And with each tiny advance in knowledge, communicates the same to our congregation; giving us the opportunity to celebrate each other in the L.V.X. of truth.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“For the soul’s communication of truth is the highest event in nature, since it then does not give somewhat from itself, but it gives itself, or passes into and becomes tha man whom it enloightens; or, in proprtion to tat truth he receives, it takes him to itself.”

3A. Prophecy, or insight, or new Gnosis is the result of serious inquiry into truth.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“We distinguish the annoucements of the soul, its manifestation of its own nature, by the term Revelation. these are always attended by the emotion of the sublime. For this communication is an influx of the Divine Mind into our mind.

3B. When we inquire into truth; seeking to discover knowledge and moved by passionate inspiration, what we inevitably discover will evoke awe and compel us to share the Gnosis we obtain.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“By virtue of this inevitable nature, private will is overpowered, and maugre our efforts or our imperfections, your genius will speak from you, and mine from me.”

    4. We need not consider our prophets to somehow be elite and especially chosen of the Divine. Rather, we simply have to contemplate the Adam Kadmon and the L.V.X. that flows through us. Such aspiation speaks from the heart and is accessibl solely by the heart; despite any intellectual sophistication or lack thereof.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“This energy does not descend into individual life on any other condition than entire possession. It comes to whosoever will put off what is foregn and proud; it ocmes oninsight; it comes as serentiy and grandeur.”

4A. To contemplate the Adam Kadmon as the Over-Soul is an act of adoration. Put one’s thoughts into this, until the heart follows and one can find the living hologram that is the union of oneself wth the Divine.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Ineffable is the union of man and God in every act of the soul. The simplest person, who in his integrity worships God, becomes God; yet for evr and ever the influx of this better and universal self is new and unsearchable.”

    And one final quote:

“…the hear which abandons itself to the Supreme Mind finds itself related to all its works, and will travel a royal road to particular knowledges and powers.”
